URA, a celebration of water
URA, a celebration of water invites audiences to enjoy a multimedia spectacular in the heart of nature. Guided by the voice of Lamia, a fantastical being descended from Basque legend, visitors are transported to a timeless maritime universe. Accessible day and night, eight experiential stations are set on the coast of the Gaspé Peninsula. Here, vivid scenery meets cutting-edge technology in a fairytale choreography.
From the first station, the very latest in multimedia technique whisks visitors to an autumnal high tide. Then, like the calm after the storm, the second station soothes visitors with a Mi’kmaq purification-by-water ritual. The following stations plunge audiences into a nighttime storm on the Atlantic seas, and then to the depths of the ocean floor. Next, they are brought to the hold of a 19th century vessel about to weather a shipwreck, before coming into close contact with the region’s aquatic underworld via a visit with a black whale. Finally, the experience culminates in a maritime audio-visual finale, where Lamia reveals herself for the first time to her audience.
Both entertaining and educational, this hour-long presentation moves visitors to new worlds of feeling and experience.
The experience is available in three languages: French, English and Mi’kmaq. The URA, a celebration of water project is part of the International Year of Indigenous Languages, and allows audiences to learn about the history, rituals and community members of the Mi’kmaq.
